2012-08-17
Jamie Kompon presented the Kompon Coaching Award on Aug.16, 2012
"Every year it seems we have several viable candidates," Coaching Director John Luetkemeyer said. "Chuck distinguished himself for going 'above-and-beyond'." Not only has he organized the coaches at the Mite division for the past two seasons, but this year he was instrumental in implementing Red/White/Blue for Kirkwood. In fact, once MO Hockey heard how we were doing things, Chuck was called upon to mentor the other clubs in St. Louis. "In many ways he coached about 500 kids this season," Luetkemeyer added.
The Kompon Coaching Award is presented annually to the individual Kirkwood Youth Hockey Association Coach for outstanding dedication and/or achievement and to coaches who have exhibited tremendous passion, dedication and leadership and proven to be a great character building in the tradition of great teacher coaches.
The award, established in honor of Chicago Blackhawks coach Kompon, because of his continued support of KYHA and the Kirkwood Pioneer’s hockey team.
Kompon is a player favorite during his annual KYHA skills and conditioning clinic each August.
Prior to working for the Blackhawks, Kompon most recently worked for the Stanley Cup winning LA Kings. He also worked nine seasons with the St. Louis Blues organization where he most recently served as the Assistant Coach/Video Coach. He began his stint with the Blues as the Video Coach in 1997. He added Strength and Conditioning Coach to his title during the 2002-03 season, and in the spring of 2006 he was on the coaching staff of Team Canada at the World Championships in Latvia.
